Drumming in the New Year

Subject: Hello

Thanks for your letter. It is so pleasant and warm up here I find it difficult to believe that it is in fact time for New Years. But the calendar says it is, so it is. Right? For the first time in many years we are having people on New Years Eve. From 11:00 to midnight, more or less. Hope we all maintain decorum and some sense of quietude. But how can we? Everyone is bringing a drum. And drums were invented to make noise. Actually, they were used by pariahs to let people know they were in the neighborhood. So we will be a houseful of pariahs come New Years Eve. So be it. richard
