Closed Doors

We are banging away,
trying to get something started,
some energy between us,
make some music.
I am hitting my shaman's drum;
she is on her Tibetan bowls and bells.
I say, "Maybe this is the way
The Doors got started, just
letting things happen."
I am joking.
Surely, I am joking?
"But they were kids," she says.
"Children. And they were on drugs."
She is not joking.
"Okay," I say. "We'll
be the Closed Doors,
and we'll take Vitamin C."
It works. The doors
begin to open.
Obviously, this is no joke.
