Laurence
Binyon
(1869-1943)
Born
in Lancashire, England, Laurence Binyon was educated at St. Paul's
School and Trinity College, Oxford. At Oxford, he was awarded
the Newdigate Prize for Poetry. Binyon joined the Red Cross in
1914 and visited the Front in 1916. In his occupations, he was
Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum; and a lecturer
and professor at educational institutions such as Harvard University
(1933-34), and the University of Athens. His publications include
collections of his verse, plays, books on art, and a translation
of Dante's Divine Comedy.
