Alan
Seeger
(1888-1916)
Alan
Seeger was born in New York City, New York. After graduating
with honors from Harvard in 1910, he lived in Greenwich
Village for two years where he wrote poetry and contributed
to the American magazine. In 1912 Seeger moved
to Paris, and two years later joined the French Foreign
Legion. Wounded in 1915, he was killed in action a year
later during a charge on the Somme. The poems Seeger wrote
at the Front were not published until a year after his
death.
